Mrs. Lynn Valdez '69

Lynn Valdez has been a dedicated alumna for decades and a faithful member of the Green & Orange Society, providing generous financial support for the last 20+ years. She received a BA in Physical Education from La Verne College in 1969 and a teaching credential in 1970. As a student, Lynn excelled academically, socially and as an athlete. Her passion for La Verne grew stronger after graduation, serving four terms on the Alumni Advisory Board and holding positions of president, vice president and secretary. In addition to attending Homecoming and other campus events, Lynn has enjoyed serving on the reunion committee for four of her decade reunions. Lynn retired after teaching physical education in the Rowland USD for 38 years. While at Nogales High School, she acted as drill team/pep squad advisor, coached tennis and softball and was instrumental in the implementation of a "Common Sense Approach to self-defense for Women" instruction block which was ultimately adopted by the entire district. While at Giano Middle School, Lynn served as the Physical Education Department Chair, was selected as teacher of the year, received the PTSA Award, named PTSA Special Gladiator of the Year, recognized in Who's Who Among America's Teachers on six occasions and, after retirement, was honored with the implementation of the ''Lynn Valdez Most Inspirational Student Award" presented each year to a deserving graduating student. Lynn is an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serves as a member of the Chaffey High School Alumni Association Board of Directors and as the co-chair of the Chaffey HS reunion committee for 30+ years. Lynn is married to Frank and their son, Brent Valdez, graduated from the University with a BS in 2000 and a JD in 2007. Lynn’s original La Verne College cheerleading uniform is now on display for fellow Leos to enjoy the historic piece for years to come.
